CLASSROOMS fell quiet at some schools in Huddersfield as pupils took part in a sponsored silence for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Macmillan held its annual schools fundraising event – The Big Hush.
Last year, the event raised £3,500 in Calderdale and Huddersfield to help people affected by cancer.
Schools taking part this year included Rawthorpe High School.
The Big Hush comes at the end of Macmillan’s Cancertalk Week, which aims to get young people aged seven to 16 talking about cancer in schools.
The idea is to educate youngsters about the disease and reduce misconceptions and fears.
Charlotte Stern, Macmillan community fundraiser, said: “Cancer affects more than one in three of us, so many children will know someone living with cancer or may even have been diagnosed with cancer themselves.”
