PERMIT parking has been refused near a busy pub. Residents of Penistone Road at Fenay Bridge petitioned Kirklees Council for the move. They complained that drinkers at the nearby Star were parking in the lay-by outside their homes. But yesterday the council’s Cabinet ruled against the move. Clr Martyn Bolt, the Cabinet member for transport, said: “Council officers have judged that it doesn’t meet the criteria for central funding. But Almondbury ward members may wish to pay for it through area committee money.” Almondbury councillor John Smithson is disappointed that the Cabinet won’t pay for permit parking in the area. He said: “I’m a bit surprised by this outcome. In the summer the Star placed tables in its car park, significantly reducing the number of spaces. It seems to me that the residents’ parking scheme is justified and necessary.” Read
