YOUNG footballers from across Kirklees are taking part in the regional heats of a national competition.

Boys and girls teams from Huddersfield are taking part in the Minute Maid under 13s English Schools FA Cup competition.

Youngsters from Mirfield Free Grammar and Rastrick High School are taking part in the boys competition and girls from Kirkburton Middle and Heckmondwike Grammar Schools are taking part in the girl’s heats.

The draw was made in Westminster on Tuesday by Sir Trevor Brooking – the FA’s director of football development and Ed Balls, secretary of state for children, schools and families.

The ESFA’s Minute Maid competition is the biggest under 13 football cup competition in Europe with 40,000 participating boys and girls.

The regional draw will lead to the final at The Ricoh Stadium – the home of Coventry City FC.
