Landslide win for Lib Dems

LIB DEMS are celebrating success at the polls.

Alison Munro won a by-election in the Kirkheaton ward of Kirkburton Parish Council by a landslide.

She won 475 votes, 70% of the total.

Ms Munro said: “We fought a positive campaign based around protecting Kirkheaton’s vital local services.

“Conservative-controlled Kirklees Council has threatened to close our library; only the Lib Dem team have campaigned against this. The voters have shown they want someone to stand up for our village.”

The by-election was caused by the resignation of Conservative councillor Jonathan Scott.

Kirkburton Parish Council has 24 members, representing Flockton, Kirkburton, Kirkheaton, Lepton, Grange Moor, Shelley, Shepley, Thurstonland and Farnley Tyas.
