AN EVENT celebrating the wonders of planet Earth is to be held at Dewsbury Museum. To mark the United Nation’s International Year of Planet Earth, the event will encourage families to find out more. Entitled Planet Earth’s Core Values, the day will give a glimpse of what lies beneath the Earth’s surface. Working with professional set designer and artist Amy Hirst, families will get the chance to turn a museum gallery into a rainforest from 300 million years ago, recreate fossilised plants and trees and make volcanoes. The free event is on March 9 from 1pm-4pm and is suitable for ages seven upwards. Read

EASTER-themed family fun will be taking place on Kirklees Light Railway. From March 21 to 25 the Shelley-based railway will hold a weekend of activities. Children can help the Easter Bunny find eggs in the playground, receiving chocolate eggs for their efforts. Lucky youngsters who find golden eggs will receive an extra-large Easter egg. There will also be donkey rides, bouncy castles, balloon modelling, egg and spoon races, train rides and colouring contests. Train rides run from 10am to 5pm and cost £7.50 for adults, £6.50 for concessions and £5.50 for children. Children under three ride for free.
