Homes needed for dogs
Feb 28 2008 by Katie Campling, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
DOG lovers in Huddersfield are being urged to give unwanted pet pooches a temporary home.
Animal charity The Dogs Trust needs volunteers for its fostering scheme, the Freedom Project.
The scheme was introduced in 2004 to provide temporary homes for dogs belonging to women fleeing domestic violence.
The project has helped 280 dogs so far and is proving so successful that more volunteers are now needed.
Volunteers need to have experience of owning or caring for dogs and need to be available during the day to look after an animal in their own home.
Volunteers need to be flexible about the breeds they will foster and must be available for at least six months.
The costs of fostering are covered by The Dogs Trust and 24-hour support is available.
Both carers and women using the service are guaranteed total anonymity.
