Students’ gold medal joy

TALENTED young mathematicians from Shelley have enjoyed success in a UK competition.

Eighty-three of the school’s top maths students from Year 10 and 11 entered the UK Maths Challenge, which is run by Leeds University.

The competition is open to pupils from across Britain and sets difficult maths challenges.

Six pupils from Shelley achieved the prestigious gold award – including one Year 10 pupil Alex Rollins and Year 11 student Jack Firth, who got the highest mark of all the Shelley entrants.

He has also qualified for the European Maths Challenge, which will be open to entrants from 25 countries.
