Award for service to valley

Award for service to valley

A MAN who has helped put Colne Valley on the map has been rewarded.

Mike Shaw, a former Examiner journalist and former editor of the Colne Valley Guardian, was honoured by the Colne Valley Society.

He received the Geoff Hutchinson Memorial Trophy for his work in promoting the valley and its environmental issues over the past 37 years.

Mr Shaw, of Cowlersley Lane, Linthwaite, was a founder member of the Society in 1971 and served as its publicity officer for many years.

He was instrumental in getting many of the Society projects off the ground and helped reshape an area which has changed dramatically over the years.

The Memorial Trophy was presented to honour Geoff Hutchinson, of Linthwaite, who died after many years of work with environment volunteers and with the Colne Valley Tree Society.

The award was presented to Mr Shaw by Mrs Jean Hutchinson, Geoff’s widow, at a meeting in Slaithwaite Civic Hall.
