Woman admits baby girl death

A woman has admitted killing a baby girl and a 27-year-old man by starting a house fire in Leeds. Marie Sharp, 22, put an ignited rag through the letterbox of a house on Dufton Approach, Seacroft, in December. Fifteen-month-old Kyra Moran died in the fire and Gavin Battensby, who tried to rescue her, died later. Sharp, of Tarnside Drive, Seacroft, admitted manslaughter at Leeds Crown Court. She will be sentenced on May 19. Read

Travellers on the East Coast Mainline whose journeys have been disrupted by gales now face travel chaos over Easter as workers plan strike action. The track between York and Doncaster has been blocked by power lines brought down in this week’s high winds. Reduced services were running between Scotland and York and between Leeds and London. Sixty-five suspected drug dealers have been arrested during a drugs’ operation in Bradford. Police have since charged 59 of them with a total of 287 offences of supplying Class A drugs. Chief Supt Allan Doherty said the seven-day crackdown was aimed at taking drug dealers off the streets. During the operation, officers seized Class A drugs worth £10,000, as well £20,000 in cash, three firearms and a quantity of ammunition. Read
