LOCAL MPs were invited to visit tourism businesses across Kirklees as part of British Tourism Week.
The Prince of Wales was again patron for the Week, which featured a series of inter-related events with the objective of raising national awareness of the size, value and importance of Britain’s £85bn tourism economy.
Tourism is extremely important to the Kirklees economy. It was valued at £385.6m in 2006 and currently supports 8,674 actual jobs, taking into account part-time and seasonal working.
Clr Ken Sims, Cabinet member for regeneration, said: “I am delighted that the tourism industry has taken the initiative to raise awareness of the UKs visitor economy”
