Students enjoy day of The Bard’s comedy
STUDENTS at Newsome High School turned to comedy for a day to stage one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays.
Performers from the Manchester Acting Company worked with Year 8, 9 and 10 students to re-create comedy Much Ado About Nothing.
The play tells the tale of young lovers Hero and Claudio who conspire to get singletons Benedick and Beatrice together.
The text is being looked at the students in their English lessons and they worked with the actors to bring alive key themes from the play, including the themes of friendship and male and female relationships.
Dionne Heaven, the school’s head of English, said the students really enjoyed working with the professionals, who have worked with the school on several previous performance projects.
