Call for crossing at accident blackspot
RESIDENTS want a pedestrian crossing on a busy Huddersfield road.
Kirklees Council will receive a petition today calling for a crossing near Cavalry Arms on Halifax Road.
Lindley Conservative Cllr Tony Brice said: “It’s quite hazardous for people walking to school because it’s a busy road.
“One of the council’s objectives is to get people out of their cars so we need to make the routes to school as safe as possible.”
Cllr Brice will present the petition to the council’s Cabinet toady.
He said: “I’m hopeful this will go through quite quickly so as the crossing can go alongside the resurfacing of Halifax Road which I’ve also asked the Cabinet to fund.”
The petition was organised by Bob Steer, the landlord of Cavalry Arms, who will be the Conservative candidate in Lindley at the council election in May.
