Helping hands to work

PEOPLE with learning difficulties are being helped into work.

A Kirklees Council programme has helped four people find jobs as laundry assistants in care homes.

Rachel Taylor works 20 hours a week at Ings Grove House in Mirfield.

She said: “I love my job. I most enjoy the chatting to the residents when returning their laundry, and working the washing machines.”

Members of Realistic Employment for Adults with Learning disabilities (Real) are also working at Castle Grange in Newsome, Moorlands Grange at Netherton and Claremont in Heckmondwike.

Real is managed by Kirklees Council’s Adult Services.

As well as helping people with learning difficulties find work it also provides on-the-job support.

The council’s Cabinet member for adult services, Clr Margaret Bates, said: “Real provides invaluable guidance and support to help people with learning disabilities to enjoy positive work. It’s a great success.”
