These pupils know how to behave
PUPILS at a Huddersfield school have been praised for their exemplary behaviour.
Inspectors from Ofsted who visited Huddersfield Grammar School gave it a glowing report, noting particularly the high quality of relationships, valuable contributions made by students and the good teaching.
Headteacher Janet Straughan said: “It seems that so often young people are regarded as being out of control in schools. We are very proud of ours, whose behaviour has been graded by the inspectors as outstanding – especially as this refers throughout the school.
“We are also very pleased with the fact that inspectors felt our 3-16 provision provided a seamless transition from Early Years to GCSE.
“We are extremely proud of our school and I think that this excellent report is a testimony to the hard work, commitment and enthusiasm of all of our staff and our young people.”
The school in Luck Lane, Marsh, has 457 pupils and inspectors visited for the first time in February.
They praised the progress made by students through the school and the range of opportunities offered by the curriculum. Also praised was planning and the range of courses offered.
A strength of the curriculum, seen by inspectors was the routine emphasis on the core subjects of literacy, numeracy, science and information and communication technology (ICT).
“Pupils make good progress because of the excellent relationships in the
classroom and their own outstanding behaviour. They are committed to their tasks, concentrate well and follow instructions accurately.”
Inspectors also noted that spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils was good.
The importance of understanding right and wrong behaviour was emphasised and provision for cultural development was good.
