‘Don’t let them tow it away’
Mar 21 2008 by Andrew Hirst, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
NOW is the time to think about protecting your caravan.
Easter is the time when caravans come out of storage and hit the roads.
But the thieves can see them as easy targets – so when you check your caravan over before you tow it off on holiday, think about how easy it could be to steal.
Thieves have already been taking caravans in Huddersfield in recent months.
A £2,000 ABI Award Transtar was stolen from Holmfirth and a £3,000 caravan was towed away by thieves from the driveway of a house in the Cumberworth area.
A green and white Elddis caravan was taken from Chickenley in Dewsbury and an Avonflower Mayflower two-berth was taken from Batley.
Relax while on holiday, but don’t let your guard down by leaving your caravan doors and windows wide open when you go off for a walk.
And never leave vehicle registration documents in the caravan as they make it easy for thieves to sell the caravan on.
If you are a member of the Caravan Club, your touring caravan will be automatically logged on the club’s security register.
This means the club can liaise with the police and dealers rapidly if the caravan is stolen.
The club also keeps a register of all caravans reported stolen, even those of non-members. This register is widely used by police throughout the UK.
The Caravan Club’s phone number is 01342 326944 and its website is www.caravanclub.co.uk
