Masked ball for charity

A BALL has raised £2,000 for charity.

The themed masked event was held by Huddersfield Pendragon Ladies Circle at Bertie’s Banqueting Hall in Elland.

They raised the money by raffling goods including a signed football shirt given by former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar

The cash raised will go to the Pinderfields Hospital Romania Fund.

Each year the Wakefield hospital sends a team to a paediatric hospital at Brasov, in Transylvania to treat children with cleft lip and palate, as well as other congenital and traumatic deformities.

The teams help local surgeons, as well as bringing the Romanian surgical and anaesthetic teams over to the UK to help with their training.

In the 18 years since the scheme started the teams have helped around 450 children.

All the money raised goes directly to helping children in the former Communist country.

The scheme is backed by the charity group Poplars Church in Worksop.
