Enthusiasts tune into radio show

RADIOS from the 1930s and 1940s crackled to life at a demonstration at the Pie Hall in Denby Dale.

Among them was a Hallicrafters Super Skyrider, a heavyweight American classic, and a wartime Marconi CR-100, all owned by radio amateur Roger Higton of Bradley.

The evening was arranged by Denby Dale Amateur Radio Society and several of the transmitters and receivers had been restored by its members.

During the event, a morse code contact was made from the Pie Hall with an amateur radio station near Madrid using a Japanese transceiver from the 1970s.

The club's next meeting at the Pie Hall on Wednesday, April 2, is an auction and bring-and-buy sale of equipment, in aid of club funds.

It is open to all from 7.30pm.
