Death plunge inquiry begins

A HEALTH and safety probe is underway into the tragic death of a workman who plunged through a roof.

The 58-year-old suffered severe head and chest injuries after plummeting around 40ft through the roof of bathroom equipment manufacturers Heritage J Ceramics on Armytage Road Industrial Estate in Brighouse.

Mr William Laurie, who lived at Scotswood in Newcastle, worked for a small ducting company and was working on the roof when the tragedy happened.

He was pronounced dead at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

An inquest into his death on April 3 has been opened and adjourned for further inquiries.

A full investigation is now being carried out by the Health And Safety Executive.

Once that is complete the inquest will be resumed in Halifax.
