New name set for big Hoyle Cup

BAY ATHLETIC and Uppermill will fight it out for the Hoyle Cup.

Both sides won through to the Works League knockout final at the Galpharm Stadium on May 6 but in contrasting styles.

Bay, who have won the league’s Division II title, defeated Uppermill’s second string at Barr Street 2-0.

Bay’s goals came from Mowat and McLaughlin.

But Uppermill were given a real fright by Moldgreen at Syngenta.

Their semi-final ended in a 3-3 draw after extra-time and Uppermill went through 4-3 after a tense penalty shoot-out.

It was a good game from two committed sides but Division I Uppermill had the edge, despite their hard run-in to the season with a backlog of games.

It will mean a new name on the trophy as neither side have won the Hoyle Cup in its 75-year history.

In the league, Berry Brow and Walpole fought out a commendable 2-2 draw on a muddy pitch at Farnley Tyas.

It proved to be a good, competitive game and the draw was a fair result.
