Artistic licence to show work

HUNDREDS of lucky artists have won the right to put their work on display.

Organisers of Holmfirth Art Week held a draw from 466 entrants and some 270 of them will take part in the exhibition, which runs from July 6 to 12 at Holmfirth Civic Hall.

Treasurer Bob Riley said: “Unfortunately, we have had to decline nearly 200 applications but there are still places available through the Friends of Holmfirth Art Week scheme, which costs £20.”

There will also be displays by 140 invited artists. This year’s featured artist will be Bradford potter Jackie Walton.

The art week, which has been running since 1967, raised £35,000 for Macmillan Cancer Research last year.

Mr Riley said: “We want to surpass that figure this year.”
