I’m the dude!

I’M THE DUDE!
“AGE is just a number.”
That’s the message from Gerry Cornfield, dubbed Huddersfield’s oldest clubber.
The Lindley man, who describes himself as “around 70”, is a regular at town centre night spots.
Gerry parties in Huddersfield two or three nights a week, sharing the dance floor with people who are half a century younger than him.
He said: “Age is just a number. I don’t tend to mix with older people – you keep young by mixing with young people.”
Gerry parties in places like My Mou, Revolution, The Cotton Factory, Tokyo and Rouge until three in the morning. He said: “I enjoy the atmosphere in the clubs, everyone’s very friendly.”
And unlike some clubbers, Gerry doesn’t need any artificial stimulants.
He said: “I can’t understand why people need all this drink and drugs to get them going. I have the odd Stella but mostly I manage on water.”
Gerry has been a regular on the club scene in Huddersfield for several years. He said: “I like dancing when the music’s right. I’m a big fan of indie music.”
Gerry is known locally as Doc Brown because of his resemblance to the scientist from the Back To The Future films.
On Saturday the Examiner carried the story of a group called Huddersfield’s Old Dude Appreciation Society which was created on social networking website Facebook by DJ Gavin Pearson.
More than 150 people have joined the group, some posting pictures of themselves next to Gerry. He said: “I didn’t know about the article, so it was a shock to see my picture in the paper.”
And Gerry admits to being in the dark about the youth phenomenon of social networking sites.
He said: “I’m a bit confused about Facebook.”
