A major fridge manufacturer has announced proposals to axe more than 420 UK jobs. Workers at the Indesit plant in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, were told that the company was set to cease production at the site.
Mayor first
Britain’s first Asian woman to become a Lord Mayor said she felt “honoured and privileged” ahead of her inauguration ceremony. Mother-of-two Manjula Sood, 60, formally became Lord Mayor of Leicester in a special ceremony at the Town Hall.
Rail torment
Thousands of rail passengers were hit when a power supply problem closed part of a main London to Scotland route. The power supply to the signalling system failed in Bletchley on the West Coast Main Line.
