CONSERVATIVES will carry on controlling Calderdale Council. After the elections on May 1 the Tories have 21 of the 51 seats, followed by the Lib Dems on 16 and Labour on nine. There are three independent councillors while the English Democrats and the British National Party each have one seat. On Wednesday seven of the council’s nine Labour representatives voted for the Conservative Cabinet to stay in power. Clr Ann McAllister of Rastrick will continue as council leader. Clr Conrad Winterburn took over as mayor at the annual meeting. Clr David O’Neill takes over as deputy mayor. Read
