YOUNGSTERS were encouraged to get involved in graffiti – as part of a clean-up campaign.

Calderdale Council and arts company Just Addictive Music teamed up to run a workshop at the skate park at Wellholme Park in Brighouse.

Funding for the workshop was secured from the council’s Brighouse action planning team by young people involved in youth initiative Project Brighouse.

It was part of an ongoing scheme to clean up the park and create a dedicated graffiti wall.

A Project Brighouse spokeswoman said: "The young people have already held two clean-ups in the park and are working with the police to confine graffiti to the legal wall at the skate park and away from the rest of the park and the town centre."

The workshop was run by professional graffiti artists who exhibit work and produce art for magazines, stage, films and the music industry.

It aimed to change negative attitudes towards graffiti and discourage vandalism.

The spokeswoman added: "This is a fantastic example of young people taking pride in their surroundings and an active interest in improving their community."
