A £50,000, clean sweep for schools

EXTRA money has been pledged to clean the areas around schools.

The Cabinet approved £50,000 for street cleaning near more than 30 middle and high schools on Friday afternoons.

The Conservative Cabinet unanimously supported the Lib-Dem proposal.

Lib-Dem Clr Ann Raistrick is pleased with the investment.

The Cleckheaton councillor said: “This issue has been raised by residents who made us aware of litter problems around our schools. This is a simple, straightforward measure to remedy that.”

Cabinet member Clr David Hall agreed.

He said: “I think this makes perfect sense and will be welcomed across the borough.”

Spending on street cleaning near schools on Friday afternoons was cut several years ago as an economy measure.
