TALENTED journalist Adrian Sudbury has won another top award.

The 26-year-old Examiner journalist was named multimedia journalist of the year at the UK Press Gazette Awards.

He was recognised for his blog about dealing with leukaemia. It is the latest in a series of national and international awards for Sudbury’s work.

In recent weeks, after discovering that his condition is believed to be terminal, Adrian has launched a campaign to persuade more people to become bone marrow donors.

It has led to him meeting Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who mentioned the visit this week in Prime Minister’s Questions.

Mr Brown said: “I have met Mr Sudbury who is using the last weeks of his life to try to make people better aware of the dangers that result from bone marrow donations not being available.

“ The issue of the promotion of the donation blood, bone marrow and organs is a priority for the Department of Health and we are looking at what we can do.”

The judges said of Adrian’s work: “The subject matter of this blog is compelling and highly emotional. The judges were impressed by the quality of the journalism and the professionalism.

“The winner understands the medium and its conversational relationship with the readers in an extremely powerful way.”

Adrian could not attend the presentation at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London, so the award was collected by his father, Keith.
