A FAMILY was shocked when they received an electricity bill for nearly £6,500.
David Sykes, of Brian Street, Lindley, said: “I nearly dropped through the floor when I saw it.”
The married father-of-two received the £6,437.32 bill from npower on May 5.
Mr Sykes, 44, a mechanic, said: “I called them the following day and was told it would be sorted in seven to 14 days.
“But when I called again on May 27 I was told it would be another six weeks.
“I don’t think it’s good at all.”
Mr Sykes feels the energy company is not taking the matter seriously.
He said: “When I speak to them they just aren’t bothered.”
He added: “If a pensioner had got that bill they might have died of a heart attack.”
An npower spokeswoman said the company was working on the problem.
She said: “We would like to apologise to Mr Sykes for the delay in correcting his bill. We will make sure his statements are updated as soon as possible.”
