Germany: The UNESCO World Heritage Committee has decided to retain Dresden’s status as a World Heritage Site for now with the hope that work on a bridge will be stopped. In 2006, UNESCO warned that the planned 2,085-foot-long bridge would mar the skyline and landscape of the eastern German city. The World Heritage Committee now says that if construction is not stopped and damage reversed, the property will be deleted from the World Heritage List in 2009. Read

Japan: All Nippon Airways is considering whether to buy the Airbus superjumbo A380. ANA spokeswoman Nana Kon said that Japan’s number two airline set up a panel to decide which jets to buy.
