Suffolk Strangler Steve Wright renews appeal
Jul 16 2008 by Neil Atkinson, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
SERIAL killer Steve Wright has renewed his appeal bid.
He was convicted in February of murdering five prostitutes, including a Huddersfield woman. Their bodies were found at remote locations around Ipswich, Suffolk, in December, 2006.
This month Wright’s first application for leave to appeal was rejected by a single judge.
Now Wright, 50, has renewed the bid, meaning it has to be considered by three judges in an open court hearing.
A spokesman for the Royal Courts of Justice in London said: “I can confirm that the applicant has renewed his application.
“Now the case will be sent off for a summary assessment to be completed.
“It usually takes about six weeks but can take longer.”
Wright murdered Anneli Alderton, 24, Tania Nicol, 19, Gemma Adams, 25, Paula Clennell, 24, and Annette Nicholls, 29.
Miss Alderton, the mother of a young boy, used to live in Primrose Hill and Marsden.
