Baha’i followers celebrate their special day

MEMBERS of Kirklees’ Baha’i community have celebrated a special date in their faith’s calendar.

On July 9 they had a holy day to remember the martyrdom on that date in 1850 of one of the founding fathers of their religion, The Bab.

This man, known as ‘The Gate’, arose in Persia to preach social and religious reform and foretold the coming of a new age of human development.

He gained many followers but his message was met with hostility from the rulers and he and thousands of his followers were put to death.

The Bab’s teachings laid the basis for the faith that exists today, and the anniversary of his martyrdom is celebrated throughout the world.

The Kirklees celebration was held at the home of Dr Ruby Lagnado and Nicholas Morris in Lindley. Prayers and readings, including an account of The Bab’s life and martyrdom, were held and participants also enjoyed a lunch.
