Challenge for tugging teams

PUBS across Lindley are being asked to form teams for an inter-tavern tug of war at next year’s Lindley Carnival.

Clrs Christine Stanfield and Tony Woodhead have written to landlords on behalf of the carnival committee, inviting them to stake their claim to the title of Lindley Carnival Tug of War Pub Challenge Winners.

About 2,000 people turned out on July 5 for the first Lindley Carnival since the early 1970s.

Clr Stanfield said: “This year’s event was a fantastic achievement and everyone involved deserves a massive thank you.

“But we’re looking ahead to next year and hoping that the idea of a tug of war competition will be taken up by the local pubs and develop into an annual carnival tradition.’’

The carnival committee is also looking for sponsors to pay for prizes for the winners and runners-up.
