PAY deals in private firms are running at 1% above those in the public sector, says new research.

Average settlements across the whole economy in the year to June were worth 3.5%.
In the private sector, average deals were worth 3.8%, compared with 2.7% in the public sector, according to pay analysts Incomes Data Services (IDS).
