Mosque ‘for good of whole community’

The AMA formed in Huddersfield in the early 1960s and has been based at Lower Fitzwilliam Street for 28 years.

Over the past decade, the AMA has organised the annual Peace Conference at Huddersfield Town Hall. They also play a big part in the Huddersfield Interfaith Council.

Views from our forums at www.examiner.co.uk

Murtaza – I am Muslim and a local resident, and I was the person who wrote in to the Examiner, as well as to our local councillors opposing the move.

I feel that another mosque is not needed and definitely not one in Birkby and Fartown.

Birkbymumy – Being a local resident, I was deeply disappointed to hear that the building we are all proud of, and that dominates our view from our houses, will be turned into yet another mosque.

Hi – ‘Love for all, hatred for none’ is our motto. How can anyone that believes in this motto want to bring harm to OUR community?

I think having another mosque will bring different communities together. AMA are the ONLY community that has held peace symposiums for all official and unofficial members to get involved, in at the town hall.

OliverTwisted – I have been reading and following the councils plan in regards to the Fartown pavilion, ie to change it from a once well known social place and a host venue for sporting activities to now a place of worship for the Moslems.

The most definitive thing that creeps into mind and as aforementioned by another member of the forum is that is there a real need for the development of another temple?

Surely having more of these worship sites can only bring about greater disparity amongst the existing Moslem community.
