Residents in battle to protect village green

CAMPAIGNERS are poised for another village green battle – 11 years after their first successful fight.

Members of Clayton Fields Action Group are preparing to fight landowners who want to overturn the village green status of the fields, off Deveron Grove in Edgerton.

Thousands of people backed a successful campaign to have the spot – popular with dog walkers and children – recognised as a green in 1997.

Village green status heavily restricts development of the designated land.

But now Leeds-based landowners Paddico Ltd want permission to apply to have that protection removed.
