Three-day battle of barn blaze

FIREFIGHTERS were still battling a barn blaze three days after it started.

Huddersfield crews spent much of yesterday at the scene of the blaze at Lower Halstead Farm, Thurstonland.

The fire started at about 6am on Saturday morning and yesterday firefighters were still there.

Crew Manager Paul Mellor said: “We’re still making sure the surrounding area is safe.

“The old barn has burned down but we’re just making sure it doesn’t spread further.”

The barn was filled with hay and the fire caused £20,000 damage.
