Man hurt in pile-up on M1

ONE man was taken to hospital after a crash involving five vehicles on the M1 motorway in West Yorkshire.

Police said the man’s vehicle overturned on to its roof on the northbound carriageway between junctions 39 and 40 near Wakefield yesterday.

Four other vehicles were unable to stop, causing a pile-up. The man was taken to hospital in Wakefield but his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

No-one else is believed to have been injured. The carriageway was closed for about an hour.
