Get out the coffee beans for charity!

CANCER charity Macmillan is urging Huddersfield people to switch the kettle on to raise money this month.

Macmillan Cancer Support is holding its annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event on Friday, September 26.

All over the UK people will be holding fundraising coffee-based events and Macmillan wants people in Kirklees and Calderdale to join them.

Last year almost 2m people raised £7.5m for people affected by cancer.

The money paid for more specialist nurses, doctors, health and social care professionals, treatment facilities, better information and financial support for people living with cancer.

Charlotte Stern, Macmillan fundraising manager for Huddersfield and Calderdale, said: “It’s easy to just get together with friends, family or colleagues, add a drink of your choice and something tasty to eat and you’re part of Macmillan’s record-breaking World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.”

Last year 311 coffee mornings in Huddersfield and Calderdale raised £38,604.

Charlotte said they hoped to smash that target this year, the event’s 18th anniversary.

She added: “Every year 270,000 people are diagnosed with cancer and 2m people are living with it. We want to support every one of these people, but we can only do this with your help.’’
