£1,500 damage in charity shop raid
A NETHERTON charity shop has been left with a large repair bill after being raided by thieves.
The DebRA charity shop, on Meltham Road, was broken into on Wednesday night.
Thieves smashed a glass panel at the bottom of a new security door, climbed through and stole the charity collection tin.
They escaped through a window at the back of the property.
The break-in is the third at the shop. The last one was in December 2007.
It has left the shop facing a repair bill of up to £1,500 for the security door.
Manager Marilyn Horrocks said: “Our landlord kindly paid half towards the door only recently. It looks like we will need a new one.
“It is the mess that is upsetting more than anything. You work so hard to keep the shop going and raise money and then people do this. It’s just so upsetting.”
