Schools closure consultation underway

SIX councillors voted to officially start the public consultation into the biggest overhaul of education ever seen in Kirklees.
Members of the Cabinet kicked-off the seven week consultation yesterday.
It will see council officials consult with teachers, parents and pupils about the closure of 11 North Kirklees schools.
Earlier this month Kirklees Council announced a massive shake-up of schools in North Kirklees.
The £200m package would also involve expanding and improving other schools and establishing a Dewsbury Academy.
But despite the opposition, there were no members of the public in the council meeting at Dewsbury Town Hall.
And there was just one member of the opposition, Clr Ken Smith, deputy for the Kirklees Labour group.
