Bar plan is 'threat to Castle Hill site'

A CONCERNED councillor is calling for caution over developments on Castle Hill.

As reported in the Examiner on September 2, a financial report is to be submitted to Kirklees Council in support of plans for a bar and restaurant at Huddersfield’s best-know landmark.

But Almondbury Lib Dem councillor John Smithson has demanded the views of heritage campaigners are taken into account.

He wants English Heritage, which campaigns to protect the country’s history, to be consulted on any development.

He said: “The guidance of the foremost authority on developing sites with a historical value must be listened to and properly considered in any future proposal, whether it be a wine bar or any other type of development.”
