New team aim to keep waterways clean and safe

Waterwise aims to fund paid wardens to protect the rivers from fly-tippers and other polluters.

It also hopes to educate schoolchildren about the importance of looking after waterways.

Group members completed a short inspection of the Colne.

Mr Sheeman said: “We want all environmental groups to get involved and the idea is to transform the waterways in our town to be educational, bio-diverse and leisure facilities to be proud of.”
