Screws tightened on theft

MOTORISTS in Dewsbury are being urged to take advantage of an initiative which will prevent them from becoming victims of registration plate theft.

The Screw It or Lose It campaign was launched jointly by West Yorkshire Police and the local Neighbourhood Watch Association in June.

It received an excellent response and now a further day has been arranged in Sainsbury’s car park in Dewsbury on October 1, between 10am and 4pm, with a free offer to fit number plates with tamper-proof screws which cannot be removed with a screwdriver.

Steve Blakeley, Neighbourhood Watch liaison officer for Dewsbury, said: “The theft of registration plates continues to be a problem, thieves have realised that number plates are easily removed and can then be used on any vehicle.
