Stepping down as leader

A RASTRICK councillor is quitting her post as leader of Calderdale Council.

Ann McAllister will continue to serve as a Conservative councillor, but has stepped down from the top job on medical grounds.

She took a break from the job on medical advice, soon after being re-elected to the council in May.

The Tories will now have to appoint a replacement to lead the authority. Deputy Conservative leader Stephen Baines has been holding the fort.

Clr McAllister, of Long Fallas Crescent, Brighouse, was first elected to the council in 2000.
