Inquiry D-Day for Kingsgate scheme

A PUBLIC inquiry which could help change the face of shopping in Huddersfield town centre gets under way next week.
The inquiry, chaired by a Government inspector, will rule on Kirklees Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for a £50m extension to the Kingsgate shopping centre – because it conflicts with council-backed plans to redevelop Queensgate.
Eight working days have been scheduled for the hearing, which gets under way at 10am on Tuesday October 7 at the Galpharm Stadium.
It is being held after Kingsgate owner WD Huddersfield appealed against the council’s decision to reject the extension plan.
