Cab driver killed in Lepton horror crash

A TAXI driver has been killed in a horror crash in Lepton.

The 63-year-old victim, who lived in Fixby, was taking three passengers home when he lost control of his Skoda Octavia on Wakefield Road at Lepton just before 4am yesterday.

It appears he was trying to avoid debris in the road from an earlier collision when he lost control, causing his car to hit a bollard and topple over on to its roof.

Miraculously, the three passengers came out unscathed.

But despite desperate efforts from Yorkshire Ambulance Service paramedics and firefighters from Huddersfield and Elland, the taxi driver died at the scene.

In the earlier collision, a Vauxhall Astra had collided with a traffic island but no-one was injured.
