Cab driver killed in Lepton horror crash

Police closed the Wakefield Road on the stretch between Rowley Lane and Greaves House for several hours to allow investigations into the accident to continue. It finally re-opened late yesterday morning.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released and police are appealing for witnesses to the crash to get in touch with them.

It is the latest in a series of tragic fatal accidents along a three-mile stretch of the busy Wakefield Road.

Last week, a young man died when his car crashed near The Kaye Arms pub. He was Andrew Hirst, who was brought up in West Bretton.

And three young girls lost their lives in a crash in Wakefield Road, Waterloo, in September, 2006.
