Hospital check led to woman’s death

He said: “On her final admission into hospital an ECG revealed that she had suffered a further heart attack. Without intervention there was a 15% risk of another which may have been fatal within a month.
“During the procedure it was found that she had stenosis, an abnormal narrowing of the artery, which elevated the risk of death to 30%.”
Mr Marks said that the problems that followed the bleeding of Mrs Gillespie’s perforated artery could have been resolved had she been fit and well, but her heart was too diseased to cope.
Recording a verdict of misadventure he added: “I’m satisfied that the treatment given to this lady was appropriate and when this unforeseeable complication developed it was treated appropriately.”
