Call for speed cameras on ‘road of death’

WORRIED residents are calling for safety measures to prevent more deaths on one of Huddersfield’s busiest roads, dubbed by locals “Brands Hatch”.
People living on Wakefield Road at Waterloo are angry after being told Kirklees Council has no plans to introduce speed cameras near their homes within the next 12 months.
There have been seven major accidents on Wakefield Road over the past two years, six of which have been fatal.
One saw three girls killed in a crash near the Waterloo pub and the latest resulted in a taxi driver being killed when his cab crashed at Wakefield Road, Lepton on October 5.
Although speed was not a factor in all of the accidents, residents say motorists regularly break the limit on the road and fear more deaths are inevitable.
