PEOPLE are confused about which parts of a moor are protected from development, says a councillor.
A developer is rumoured to want to build on Lindley Moor.
Clr Christine Stanfield explained that only part of the 67-acre moor is protected by law.
The Lindley Lib Dem added: “There is a small patch of heather on the Elland side of the M62 which has magnificent views.
“It is the last remnant of the original moor and it is this section that was given to the people of Huddersfield in perpetuity and is safe from development.”
But Clr Stanfield said parts of the moor on the Huddersfield side of the M62 were classified as brownfield, meaning they can be built on.
She said: “The fields on either side of Crosland Road are marked for business and industry while the land next to Weatherhill Road is marked for housing.
