Clampdown on yobs and young boozers

A FORMER detective inspector from Huddersfield aims to bust booze-related crime across West Yorkshire.

Insp Jon Morgan’s pioneering role is to make sure officers have the tactics and most effective ways to deal with alcohol-related problems.

Another inspector, Deborah Garnett, has been appointed to a similar task, but dealing with anti-social behaviour.

Both are in the West Yorkshire force’s Local Policing Department and will co-ordinate all policy against drugs and alcohol to make sure tactics that are proved to work are used across the area.

The new posts are the first of their kind in the county and Insp Morgan’s role specialising in tackling alcohol- related crime is thought to be one of only a handful in the UK.

He will adapt new Government schemes on alcohol, target alcohol-fuelled crime and disorder and focus on reducing alcohol consumption among the under-18s.

Insp Garnett will work to try and make sure all Neighbourhood Police teams use the latest tactics to deal with anti-social behaviour in their communities.
